[In memoriam Ingrid Kreutz]
Soprano recorder & live electronic [2006]
Composition commission on the occasion of the ERTA competition 2006 for Maria Hofmann [double 1st prize winner].
The composition was based on the medieval dance of death “ad mortum festinamus” (We are hurrying towards death) from the medieval Codex Libre Vermell de Montserrat and was inspired by the text and melody of the medieval dance of death, which indicate that death is an event awaited with joy and that life until then was understood as a kind of stage or preparation for life after death, because life does not end with death, but only finds its real beginning in eternity. The ostinati of the flute notes played live are condensed by the software into a complimentary rhythm that accompanies the electronically processed sounds of the cemetery gate of the Münsterland Anabaptist village of Schöppingen.
