Why I love social network – a conversation on facebook

Here I wanna share a conversation with the musician Bruno Ribeiro Pietoso from Sao Paulo/Brasil as an inspiring example to give support for my music & work round the globe by the internet and social network:

hi dorothée thank you for the friendship, i’m really glad i came across your music for it just blows me away to come across exciting music and interesting composers. thank you once again.

04:13

Your very welcome and it it very nice for me to see that my music is going on to travel the world 🙂

04:14

yeah it surely did and i’m sure it does that all the time…

04:15

and its very nice to see what connections happen from it

04:15

yes, i’m really excited about your compositions for the axolot trio?

04:16

oh thank you very much, it was a wonderful time ful of joy to work with the musicians

04:16

is it done now? have they performed the work already?

04:17

and for me it was a very big step to go on developing live-electronic software that primary supports easy handling and stressless performing

no the trio is playing my composition at next on 3th july in Duisburg /Traumzeit Festival

04:18

did you feel it took you away from a certain comfort zone?

04:18

we are planing a composer portrait concert completly with my music for the next year

04:19

oh i see! that sounds amazing and I wish I could be a part of that…i used to live in london so I was a bit closer to all of this however came back to brazil last year and things move in a different pace down here

04:19

since 2005 I’m learning to programm in Max/MSP and every new music experiments is bringing more routine

and better solutions. It getting more and more easier and more comfortable.

at example i made a second monitor screne for the musicians with control leds and volume-levelmeters

so they can see when the software is recording and they can control the right volume by themself

04:21

it brings me such joy to see such exciting things happen in music it’s a bit overwhelming sometimes to know that there are people out there such as yourself !!

04:22

will you come to europe nexte time?

04:23

well i intend to…soon to be honest

04:23

please let me know when u are here

04:24

have you been travelling a lot with your music or mainly focused in germany?

04:24

my idea for the music is that everybody can performe the music at home

only with a laptop with mic and speakers

04:25

but let’s say for example

dance macabre

there are recorders yes?

04:25

yes

the original from 2006 is one recorder

with software playing playbacktapes with sounds from the graveyard door

04:26

and a few rhythmic elements that revolves around the melody and loops

04:26

and delayed flutes from the live signal

04:26

ah i see

so the delay is from the live signal?

fantastic

04:26

yes

Daniel Koschitzki was in the jury when the music was first performed in austria and he called me to asked if I can make a quartet version

so the live delays are played from the other musicians only together with the tape

04:28

so it’s an “analog” delay i guess in a way…

04:28

i understand the ostinato melody from the flute more as an attendance. they play additional to the playback sounds.

In the original version it is digital because its a softwarescript delaying the digitalized livesignal from the flute

you can download the software and score for free on my website

04:30

i was about to ask you this

04:30

and the software have an integrated playbacktape for the flute played by Dorothee Oberlinger

04:30

i’m intrigued

04:31

so you can realize the music live on every computer

04:31

another thing that blew my mind is the actual perspective that you gave to the recorder. i must admit one of the reasons i got back into playing the recorder and taking lessons again is the work of trio axolot and compositions such as dance macabre

04:31

🙂

I cannot play this instrument

but i love to work with excellent recorder players, because the instrument is so phantastic

04:32

well neither can i for all that matters…well perhaps in awhile..

for now all i can do is take in all these wonderful sounds

04:33

i wrote in 2006 another music for 8 Violoncello and I want to make a version for recorder ensemble

04:33

would say the voicing would be appropriate?

04:35

in the dance macabre i agree, because the sounds from the doors are so beautiful

maybe im more interested to create new soundscapes than to find melodies or rhythms

04:36

yes to create ambiances with sound

04:36

the sounds from the doors are full of feelings & full of soul

04:37

yes they just complement the recorder perfectly

the question is tho, by organizing this sound with melodies what are you creating? would you say it’s music, is it soundscape?

it is quite late over there am i correct?

04:39

my focus in the work is on the soundscape, to make something able to hear that is allways present but not recognized this way before

in this kind of working the process is creating wonderful melodies and rhythms from themself

04:40

perfect

04:40

in a technical way they are the trash of my work 🙂

natural trash

04:40

yes!! 🙂

04:41

and like all what it coming from nature -> its beautiful from inside

and for myself as a composer

i have given away all control

to work like this is better than all drugs 🙂

04:42

so i guess the conception is yours but what happens to it is no longer controlled by you?

it must be a very freeing experience

04:42

every system needs constances, variables and unknown parts

04:43

this is true

04:43

so i fix as constant notes and cues for electronic controls

in the most compositions are free parts for improvisations for the performer

and the unknown part will happen however

i dont know

i want to make every performance no reproducable – singular

only for now for one moment

04:46

i believe that is unique and exciting because you will never experience that one feeling the same way again

such as in life

04:47

exactly

04:49

dorothée despite this wonderful conversation i must go, it has been a pleasure and thank you so much for your words and attention. do keep in touch

04:50

its a pleasure to me, too. Thank you very much for your questions. Stay very well and I go looking forward to stay in contact with you

04:50

definitely will do thanks once again and have a pleasant night

04:51

same to you please. very best and good night

04:51

good bye for now
